J.P. Kumar serves as Corporate Counsel at Caterpillar Inc. in Peoria, Illinois. He has been with Caterpillar since 2004 and has been active in the company's Pro Bono Program since the Program’s founding in 2006.  J.P. was the first Chairman of the Pro Bono Committee in the Peoria office and now serves on the Division-wide Steering Committee for the Pro Bono Program.  

After 6 years working in the Litigation Section of Caterpillar's Legal Services Division, managing a wide range of product, commercial, and mass tort litigation, and supervising the mass tort and litigation support groups, J.P. has transitioned to the Commercial Section at Caterpillar to learn a new set of skills.  

Prior to his career at Caterpillar, J.P. practiced commercial and product litigation for seven years at Thompson & Knight in Houston and Dallas, Texas.  J.P. is a 1993 graduate of Dartmouth College and a 1997 graduate of the University of Texas School of Law and is scheduled to receive his Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago in December 2010.
