William L. Broom III is a partner with the firm of Barrett, Twomey, Broom, Hughes & Hoke, LLP in Carbondale, where he concentrates his practice in civil litigation, estate planning and eminent domain.

He received his B.S. in accounting from the University of Illinois and his J.D. from the University of Illinois College of Law. He served four years in the U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General Corps. He is active in the Illinois State Bar Association and has served as Chairman of the Health Care Section Council and the Committee on Legal Education.

He is presently a member of the Committee on Professional Conduct. Mr. Broom is also a member of the American Bar Association, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, and the Illinois CPA Society. He served on the Board of Trustees of Southern Illinois Hospital Services from 1985 to 1997. He has served as a Special Assistant Attorney General for land acquisition and real estate matters since 1983.

Mr. Broom is the co-author of the chapter of Trials in the IICLE Eminent Domain Handbook. He also authored the chapter on Planning in the IICLE Handbook, Estate Planning for Illinois Attorneys: The Basics and Beyond; as well as the chapter on Planning for Incapacity: Powers of Attorney, Living Trusts, and Forms of Ownership in the IICLE Handbook, Advising Elderly Clients and Their Families. He has been recognized by his peers as a member of the Leading Lawyer Network in the areas of Trusts, Wills and Estate Planning Law, Elder Law, Commercial Litigation Law and Land Use, Zoning and Condemnation Law. He is a frequent lecturer on Estate Planning and Living Trusts.
